The Agency Games: LAST Update

For the past five months, I have posted an update on my book process on the 22nd of every month. I’m a little early, but here is my update on:

The Agency Games

(a working title)

The Agency Games is a nonfiction book which analyzes human agency within the popular Hunger Games trilogy. I will be doing in-depth character analyses of individuals such as: Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, Gale Hawthorne, Haymitch Abernathy, Cinna, Primrose Everdeen, and more in trying to understand how human agency is discovered, maintained, tested, lost, and regained in a dystopian society and how that relates to us as readers.

I posted my writing goals in January with the hope of meeting the 75,000 word minimum by the deadline of May 31st to send to my publishers. I hoped that by posting my progress online, I would be encouraged and held accountable and man, did you guys hold me accountable! (Yes, I am looking at you Micheal E. Helms!)

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who continuously commented, encouraged, and reminded me to keep working and moving forward!

• On January 22nd, 2018, I posted by first update. I was at a total of 22,000 words.
• On February 22nd (after a VERY productive month having written 19,000 words), I was at a total of 41,000 words having written 3,500 words more than my original goal.
• On March 22nd, I surprised even myself at being able to meet by quota and had a total of 55,200 words.
• On April 22nd, after a rough month, I had a total of 70,000 words and I had nothing left to write. . . so I decided to start again and rewrite my book word for word, line by line . . .

As of today, I have 78,218 words!

I have officially completed the first finalized draft of my manuscript (which is actually the FIFTH DRAFT altogether.) It’s ironic and almost poetic that I am sick on the day that I finish this book as I was sick on the day that I started writing it. Just goes to show that being an author is taxing on the individual not only mentally and emotionally, but physically as well. But to me, writing will always be worth the difficulties, it is who I am!

This morning, (20 days ahead of schedule) I sent in my manuscript to the Publishing Company and it should be given to the BETA readers within the next few weeks, so now comes the waiting . . .

Again, I just want to repeat:

This journey was difficult at times and definitely demanding, but your comments really encouraged me to keep going and knowing that you would ding me if I fell behind kept me accountable.
