A Shower

Pale white-rimmed, glass lantern

Hanging over aqua-blue seas

Smooth, blush-colored candle,

Unlit, awaiting it’s potential

Accompanied by the soft, full bloom

Of iridescent-colored petals

Waiting for me.

White lace that clings and shapes

Diamonds that settle comfortably

Atop of collarbones

White, heeled shoes that clack

Excitedly against tiled floor

Pacing, anxiously awaiting

The arrival of guests.

Last weekend was my bridal shower and everything felt like a wonderful dream. I was beyond blessed by my family and friends. The decorations were lovely, the games a blast, the food delicious, the gifts generous, and the company priceless. I hope to always remember it as it was, a wonderful day.

My best advice to any bride out there who is dealing with the stress: be sure to put aside your expectations on big days and simply focus on being in the moment to enjoy it. Things will always go differently than we planned (but that is not always a bad thing). If you are anything like me, you will plan and plan and plan and plan and plan. There’s nothing wrong with being a planner, just remember that on that day to let go of your plans and let it be. With that attitude, I was able to truly and entirely enjoy my Bridal Shower completely, even when things did not go exactly according to plan.

Separation Anxiety (A Poem)

Looking forward

His hand in mine

And I’m soaring

But I feel that slight

Tug at my heel

As I look back at the past

I look back at the relationships

That ultimately must change

And I feel my wings flutter and fold

Struggling to stay

airborne.

Waiting (A Poem)

I’m waiting

For you

For a blue sky

Reflected on an azure lake

I’m waiting for you

For a walk down the aisle

Lined with pale pink petals

And rusted lanterns

With flickering lights

I’m waiting

For you

For the first dance as you

Swirl me about the wooden floor

As layers of lace and tule

Twirl about our bodies

I’m waiting

For the words

That proclaim our everlasting love

For the kiss

That seals our dedication

For the tearful send-offs

And then

Dimmed

Lights.

Poetry

Conflicting Emotions

Cascading spa-colored fabric

That ruffles down, extenuating their figures

lightly brushing against the

Silver strapped heels

*

An argument about a morphine drip

That soothes pain and yet,

Simultaneously, steals away what

Precious little time remains

*

Teardrop necklaces that rest

Perfectly between the collar bones

Kissing their skin right above

V-shaped necklines

*

Caregivers that do their best to

Give care where they can and warning

Where they cannot, whispering,

“Prepare yourself for the end.”

*

The family and friends who murmur

“Congratulations on your Engagement”

and “Our Condolences” on your grandfather’s health

In the same sentence.

*

A man that loves me with all his heart

And a man who showed me what love is

*

The best

and

The worst

Memories occurring

Side by side.

*

Poetry

A Declaration of Love

A spark and a flash

That’s all it takes

A moment of heat

A production of flame

Wax softens and melts

Guided by your hands

Droplets drip and drop

Puddling in a sea of blue

Golden brass awaits

Cooled and prepared

Standing vigilant

In my fingers

Then, ice and heat meet

Clashing against one another

Revealing a declaration

Of our love.

***This poem was recently inspired as my fiancé and I prepared our Save the Dates for our upcoming wedding. We decided to seal each card personally with a wax stamp. It was a ton of fun, even if he did momentarily catch his finger on fire, and we love the results. Hopefully our friends and family will as well!

Poetry

525,600 Minutes

There are 525,600 minutes

In a single year

But we have been waiting

Much longer, my dear

*

There are 8,760 hours

Before our new life starts

Before the two of us transform

Into one single heart

*

There are 365 days

Between now and then

We hope, plan, and we pray

Over and over again

*

There are 12 months

Before dreams become reality

We are nearly there

We were always meant to be

*

There is one year

One year before I marry you

Just one year

Before our dreams become true

Happy New Year Everyone! An Update on my Blog

Happy New Year Everyone!

It’s the first day of a New Year, do you have any special plans? Maybe you have some new resolutions in your personal life. As for me, I’m making some new resolutions for my blog life.

I was recently engaged to the love of my life and over the next year I will be planning a wedding, that being said, I have one more aspect of my life that needs attention. I love the WordPress community and all the people I have met here, but I will have to cut down on the time I spend online because as I said, I will be planning a wedding.

That being said, do not fear, I am not leaving! I am only reducing my time online this year. Instead of posting every day, I plan to post 3-5 times a week and only on the week days. I will still be around reading and commenting on your blogs, but I may not be as present.

At the end of 2017 . . .

I graduated from college with my Master’s degree and got engaged all within a matter of days. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic year.

Now, as 2018 begins . . .

I will be teaching college English, finishing my first book and hopefully publishing it toward the end of the year, and planning a wedding. This is an extremely important, wonderful, and crazy time of my life and I am so glad that I can express myself here.

So, Happy New Year everyone!

I pray that you all will have an incredible year!
