Blogging Tip: Plan Ahead

I posted this blog before and I’ll continue to do so because it is truly the only way that I know how to blog consistently without feeling like I am losing my mind.

One of the biggest obstacles to blogging (I think) is consistently pushing through posts on a regular basis that contain great content. What I mean by this is it is hard to post every day, or even every other day, and on top of that, it is harder to post great blogs every time.

Let’s be honest, some days we just don’t feel very creative. We’re tired either physically or mentally or both and we just don’t have anything to contribute. We sit down at this blank screen and think, “wow I literally have nothing to say.”

Or worse, you sit down and write something up but then that evil villain known as Self-Doubt crawls into your ear and commands that you erase the entire post because he doesn’t think its good.

First off, tell Self-Doubt to take a hike. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life! And so what if you post one blog that isn’t up to your regular standards? Be honest about it at the end of your post and maybe ask for feedback. Ask your followers to help you out, there’s nothing wrong with being human!

Yet, there will be days when you simply cannot write, you can’t think, and you definitely can’t create a blog post. That will happen, so prepare for it and plan ahead!

Part of blogging is spontaneous creativity, the other part is being prepared with planned posts.

You heard me, Planned Posts.

When you have great days where creativity is flowing, don’t stop after one post and don’t post multiple times a day. Instead keep creating and scheduling them in advance. For instance, this is the third tip I have planned ahead today on September 9th.

Write in advance on your good days so that you don’t need to worry on your bad days.

Happy Writing & Blogging Everyone!

What about you? Do you plan ahead with your blog posts? Do you find it helpful?

Blogging Tip: Don’t Feel Like Writing? Visit Your Reader

Do you ever open WordPress, look at that blank screen and think, “This is it. This is the moment when I run out of topics to blog about.”

And in that moment, you begin to panic. Will you ever blog again? Will you be reduced to merely someone who used to blog instead of someone who blogs? What will your followers think? Will they even notice? Should you just shut down your blog?

Image result for woah calm down gif

Seriously, calm down and stop freaking out.

Yes, you have run out of topics to write about and things to blog about (for now). Just because you are currently stumped does not mean that you will continue to be. However, you cannot stare at a blank screen and force yourself to write (most likely nothing will happen and if you do produce anything, it probably won’t be any good.) So calm down, and allow yourself to accept that you won’t be writing today.

However, do NOT sign off!

Do you want to grow a successful blog? Writing blog posts is only a part of blogging. Another large part of blogging is building your community and engaging with fellow bloggers. Go visit those other blog sites (that you should be following) and maybe even find new blog sites to follow. Click on your “Reader” and type in something that you are interested in. When you can’t write or blog, you should be reading! Reading other blogs:

  • Encourages community.
  • Helps you get to know other bloggers
  • Helps other bloggers get to know you
  • Creates a society of reciprocation

So, get out there and start reading!

Blogging Tip: 4 Ways to Attract More Followers

Hello fellow bloggers! Today we’re going to talk about followers, because as much as we all enjoy writing, sometimes blogging can feel like shouting into the void when we receive no response to our latest post. The best part of blogging is the community that comes with gaining and becoming a follower(s).

QUICK HINT: It is just as important to be a good follower as it is to find followers.

Here’s the thing. I do not have an astounding number of followers. I am still a relatively small blog compared to the people who do this for a living. I began this blog on October 8th, 2017 and since then I have gained 2,000+ followers (and some really great friends among those numbers). What I have going for me is consistency (at least most of the time because blogs, like life, have their valleys and hills).

In the past, I was asked, “How did you gain so many followers so quickly?”

Even now as I garner followers at a slower pace, I stick by my four ways to attract followers:

  • Hard work. No seriously, if you really want followers you are going to have to work hard. You cannot just come at it from one angle. Which leads to the next three points.

  • Post often. I do not think it is necessary to post every single day, although I applaud those of you who can. However, you should be blogging at least 3 times per week and not only should you be posting something, but it should be something of importance. Your content needs to be clear, interesting, helpful, engaging, etc. When creating a post consider what your intent is. Are you trying to entertain? Be encouraging? Give advice? Call for action? What will your reader gain from reading your post?

  • Engage OTHER blogs. This does not mean visiting random blogs and leaving a link to your blog. Do NOT go and spam someone’s blog with “support” and then comment “support back” or “follow back.” It becomes very clear that you are not actually interested in their site at all, you just want followers. Seriously, it’s frustrating and really, just rude. Instead, find blogs that are like yours or that interest you. I search for other blogs that relate to authors, books, writing, etc. Then I engage on the post and comment directly about what the other blogger has posted. I even ask questions. I engage in dialogue about THEIR blog, not mine. Now of course you can eventually bring up your blog if you think the other party would be interested, but don’t go into the conversation solely for your benefit. Go in to learn more about other blogs. Seriously, being a good follower is a key part to gaining followers yourself.

  • Engage with your FOLLOWERS. You’ve got followers! Great! Now, if their blogs interest you in the slightest, follow them back! You don’t need to subscribe to instant emails, but maybe just weekly emails or even just follow, but you should be engaging with them still. Just because you reached your goal and achieved your follower doesn’t mean that you move on from them. Be RECIPROCAL. When their posts come up in your “Reader” take some time to go through and like/comment on at least a few. When someone takes the time to comment on your latest post, click their name and check out what they have been up to.

  • HARD WORK. Are you understanding the hard part now? Maintaining a blog is hard enough, posting often is difficult, and engaging with new/old blogs is time-consuming. However, in my experience, this is a successful strategy that not only results in more followers, but also helps me to gain new insights from other blogs!

What about you? What are your blogging strategies?

Blogmas: 2,000+ Followers is a Wonderful Christmas Gift!

KaylaAnn’s Author Blog has officially reached 2,000+ followers!

So life has been insane lately, more than insane, but I cannot think of word that aptly describes my life at the moment. In the past week, my final grades were due at the college I teach at, meaning that I had to grade 64 six page essays in seven days! It got even harder when I realized that one of my students had plagiarized (let me tell you, that is not a fun process to have to go through as a professor). At the same time, the high school I teach at, desperately needed subs, so I ended up working 20 hours more than I usually do there (on top of what I already work). Plus, my fiance and I are planning home renovations for his back house so as to turn his bachelor pad into our home when we get married. On top of that, my best friend just had her baby three days ago and she is the most beautiful child I have ever met. I already love her with all of my heart and I know that I would do anything for her.

Let me just say, the past week was insane.

Which is probably why I did not realize that my blog had hit over 2,000+ followers until today!

Image result for happy surprise gif

And let me just say, this was such a wonderful encouragement that my blog is doing what I hope it would do. I love the community that I have found here on WordPress, especially those who support, like, and comment regularly.

As a giant thank you, I would love to read your posts! I feel like I haven’t been able to keep up with all your wonderful bloggers and like I have been neglecting you.

So PLEASE, in the comments, drop a single link from either your most RECENT post or your FAVORITE post from the last month.

Weekend Blog Party *Hosted by KaylaAnn* (August)

As some of you might remember, my first Blog Party was a total smash! I really enjoyed meeting new bloggers and I know you guys did too!

So, I thought, let’s do it again!Image result for party gif

For those of you who are not aware what a blog party is let me break it down. Generally speaking, a blog party is an online gathering for bloggers of all kinds to meet and engage with one another.

Here are some simple rules:

  1. First off, everyone is welcome to participate in this Blog Party (even if you do not currently follow me, although I would LOVE it if you did!) -> If you are a new follower of my blog, say hi and let me know so that I remember to drop by your blog and check you out.
  2. Leave a Comment! Say hi and tell us who you are and what your blog is about. Feel free to leave a link connecting back to your blog’s home page or to your favorite or most recent blog post! (Post this only once please.)
  3. Mix and Mingle! This is where the party begins. I am blessed to have over 1,000 followers and this is a great opportunity for many of my friends to meet each other. You guys are amazing and I think a lot of you would enjoy meeting and following one another.
  4. Remember, you never have to follow anyone just because they follow you. However, it is good manners to always return a page visit for a page visit. Did someone stop by your blog, like or leave a comment? Do the same for them! It only takes a minute.
  5. Don’t forget to REBLOG! Spread the fun by encouraging your own followers to join in the party! This is the best way to attract new bloggers by spreading the word.

Have Fun Everyone!

I look forward to mingling with our imaginary cocktails in the comments!

This Blog Party will be held and moderated exclusively Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so don’t miss out!

Crash Course in Blogging 101

To any First Time Bloggers (or any bloggers looking for help on their site or gaining new followers),

When trying to set up your blog and gain followers, do you ever feel like this?

Image result for pulling hair gif

Creating a new website can be frustrating as you navigate themes and customization options, but it does not have to be.

Finding blogs worth following and gaining followers in return can sometimes feel like the eternal mystery, but it does not have to be.

In my 5-day course, you and I will work together to tackle these enigmas and make your blog something special! In six months, I reached 1,000 followers and let me support that statement with this, “It was not easy and it was a LOT of hard work!”

If you’re willing to work for it, then you’ve come to the right place!

In this 5-day course, we will address blogging issues such as: site identity, the physicality of your blog, blogging schedules, content, how to follow and be followed, and how to thrive in the blogging world. Additionally, I’ll still be around after this course to answer questions that may come your way not only as your Blogging Mentor but as a Blogging Friend.

For my services, I require a one time payment of $40 (approximately $8 a day, which means I’m offering my services for under minimum wage).

Tiffany from BeUTifLee gives the course 5 stars!

I enjoyed the course, learning more than when I started the blog. Kayla Ann is full of knowledge, don’t hesitate to ask any question, big or small. The course is fun, inviting, and creative. It all depends on your motivation and determination. As I always say, Creativity takes courage.

5-star2

If you are interested in this 5-day Crash Course in Blogging 101 with me, your go-to Blogging Mentor, head over to my home page. On my menu, you will see a tab that says “HOME.” Click that and in the drop-down menu, click “CONTACT.” Fill out that form to contact me about wanting to participate in this enlightening course.

Due to my schedule, I can only take on one client per week so keep that in mind! I only have a few openings left for this summer so don’t wait! I will get back to you within a few days at the latest with my next availability and further instructions.

I look forward to meeting and assisting new bloggers!

Disclaimer: This 5-day course is really designed for beginning bloggers (although veteran bloggers are welcome to apply for the course as well, though these will be more reminders than new insights).

Blogging Tip: Responding to Followers

Gaining Followers is not the only thing that matters. Building relationships and dialogue with said followers is what really matters.

I’ve given this advice before: When blogging, be reciprocal. In other words, if you want more followers, it cannot just be all about YOU. It is about others, it is about your followers. So, if you want more followers, here is what I suggest:

Image result for respond gif

It does not matter if you have 10 followers or 10,000 followers, you should be responding to your followers.

When your followers leave a comment on your blog post, you should be thrilled! Someone has taken the time to read YOUR work! Isn’t that great? So let them know! Say thanks for stopping by and even ask questions, keep the conversation going.

Now that’s the easy way to be reciprocal. The harder way is visiting other blogs and leaving comments, but it is still so important! Why should people continue to visit your blog, sacrifice their time, and encourage you if you are not willing to do the same for them? Plus, it’s just so dang enjoyable exploring other blogs!

Don’t get me wrong, I know that it can be crazy hard to visit everyone’s blogs. It is hard for me. So here are a few different ways to address this issue:

  • Visit your reader daily and select at least 5 blog posts to open, read, and leave a comment. You will probably follow more than 5 blogs, so obviously you won’t hit all of the blogs you follow in one day. The next day choose 5 more blog posts to open but try to make sure that you are hitting blog sites that you did not visit the day before. Keep cycling and doing your best to hit different blogs every day and cycle them, that way you are visiting often without burning yourself out on the reader.

  • Next, when someone leaves comment on your post, you can respond to it and then click on their site. Go check out their latest post and leave a comment. Or if that post doesn’t strike your fancy, take a minute to find a post that you feel you can really respond to.

These are just two suggestions on how to make sure that you are engaging in other blogs. I try my best to do both. Those who comment on my blog posts are more likely to receive a like, comment, or both on their posts because I appreciate the time they have spent on mine.

Now, what if you have hundreds of comments on your posts? How are you supposed to respond to them all? Well, first off, that’s awesome to have so many comments! Congratulations, that must have been a killer post. Do your best to spread the love. Go through the comments, respond to them all there, and be sure to hit up as many sites in return as you can.

Reciprocation is key!
