Blogmas Craft #2: “JOY” Wine Bottle Decor

Hey Everyone!

Today for Blogmas, as my present to all of you, I thought I might show you all how you can create beautiful, holiday wine decor bottles for yourself!

Step #1: Acquire, clean, and paint your bottles

Now, I’m not suggesting that you become an alcoholic, but you are going to need some empty bottles: wine, liquor, whatever. (While it’s more fun to use the different shapes for the snowman, you will want to use similar shapes and sizes for the JOY decor)

img_5694

After you’ve collected your bottles, you will need to spray them your preferred color (white). Let them dry and then spray them again. You will almost always need 2+ coats of paint.

Step #2: Acquire Craft Supplies

For these “JOY” wine bottles, you will need three wine bottles of similar height, three branches of red holly, a branch of mistletoe (which you will cut into smaller branches), a glue gun, stencils of your choosing, red glitter squeezable paint, and a ball of twine. (These supplies can range anywhere around $15-$70 depending on what you get and how much you get)

Step #3: Creating the Design

After stenciling on the letters of your chosen styling, you will need to fill in the letters with red glitter glue. Make sure to give a thick layer as it will flatten and thin out as it dries. (These will take a full 24 hours to dry).

Step #4: Seal in the Design

A full 24 hours later, your glitter letters will have thinned down and you will want to spray the whole bottle with clear sealing spray paint. After this coat has dried (another hour or so), using the hot glue gun you will apply layers of twine to the top of the bottles.

Step #5: Become the Florist Your Always Wanted to Be

Remember those holly berries and mistletoe branches from earlier? Create a lovely Christmas-themed floral arrangement coming from the tops of those bottles as your finishing touch!

There you have it! The whole process takes about 2-3 days and the various supplies can be found at most craft stores.

They make great presents too!

Blogmas: Colors Reflected on Wet Pavement

One of my favorite parts about the Christmas season are all the different colors and pretty lights! There is just something so joyful and encouraging about seeing bright multi-colored light reflected off of rain soaked pavement. Don’t you think?

“The wet pavement reflects my heart

Perhaps a bit worn, perhaps a bit damp

But ultimately it celebrates the coming

Of bright, twinkling lights

And warm Eskimo kisses

Shared between lovers

And family alike.”

How to “Blogmas” (Early Release for Dec. 1st!)

You guys know that I don’t regularly post on the weekends. I’m strictly a week-day type of blogger but . . .

It’s December 1st, and you all know what that means!

December 1st

It’s Blogmas Time, Baby!

I’ll freely admit it, I am a holiday-focused kind of person. I love celebrating and decorating and getting together with friends and family. In particular, I love Christmas, I love the cooler weather, the hot chocolate, Christmas carols, celebrating Jesus’s birth, and more. One of the fun blogging ways to revel in the Christmas spirit is through Blogmas!

What is Blogmas? You ask.

Blogmas is when bloggers of all topics (writing, health, fashion, travel, etc.) transform the focus of their blogs to reflect the holiday season. Some of these topics can include: Favorite Christmas Carols, Christmas poem (of your making or sharing your favorite well-known Christmas poem), favorite Christmas sweater/mug, DIY Christmas ideas, letter to Santa, Christmas themed destinations, etc., etc., etc. Look around online and you’ll see the list of possibilities quite literally goes on and on and on and on. . . .

Technically, when you participate in Blogmas most bloggers post a Christmas-themed post every single day of the month. It is their version of an Advent Calendar or a way of counting down to Christmas day!

However, in my opinion, you do not have to post every single day, yes it is fun and if you can do it, more power to you! However, if you want to participate but posting every single day seems daunting, post on your regular schedule and just switch it around to Christmas-themed.

Perhaps you’ve been thinking about what you want to do for Blogmas? I came across these wonderful blog posts last year by The Wild Hideaway and Lindsay that were super helpful for me and I think it can help you too! Be sure to check them out!

While their 100 ideas are indeed spectacular, here are five of my ideas!

  1. They may suggest that you share your favorite Christmas poem, I encourage you to come up with and post your own Christmas poem!
  2. They suggest you share your favorite Christmas story, well how about you write your own? It can be a non-fiction memory of your own Christmas experiences. It can be flash fiction. It can be one line or it could be a novel!
  3. Your favorite Christmas Movie based on the book
  4. Favorite Christmas Mug
  5. What is something NEW that you will be doing this year for the Christmas season?

609EAEEF-2A14-455C-9FB0-C84C5BDD0A64.jpeg

Who else will be participating in Blogmas? Do you have any ideas of what you plan to post about?

Keep a close eye on my blog in the next couple of days as I plan to host and release the information on my Annual Blogmas Contest!

Holiday Blog(mas) Party Weekend

Tomorrow marks the first of December and I could not be more excited!

Christmas is an extremely special time of the year for me for several reasons. First and foremost, I am a Christian and Christmas is a time for me to celebrate the coming of my Savior. Second, it was this time last year that my fiance proposed to me and I will forever associate the Christmas season with that moment. Third, it is a time for me to be with family, which is more important this year than any other year with my Papa’s failing health. And lastly, I simply love the bright colors and lights and songs of the Christmas season that fill my heart with joy and happiness!

So for today’s Blog Party, we are kicking off the Christmas Season!

Down below introduce yourself, your blog, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, what Christmas means to you! Do you celebrate it? What is your favorite Christmas memory? AND, will you be participating in Blogmas this upcoming month?

For those of you who are not aware what a blog party is let me break it down. Generally speaking, a blog party is an online gathering for bloggers of all kinds to meet and engage with one another.

Here are some simple rules:

  1. First off, everyone is welcome to participate in this Blog Party (even if you do not currently follow me, although I would LOVE it if you did!) -> If you are a new follower of my blog, say hi and let me know so that I remember to drop by your blog and check you out.
  2. Leave a Comment! Say hi and tell us who you are and what your blog is about. Feel free to leave a link connecting back to your blog’s home page or to your favorite or most recent blog post! (Post this only once please.)
  3. Mix and Mingle! This is where the party begins. I am blessed to have nearly 2,000 followers and this is a great opportunity for many of my friends to meet each other. You guys are amazing and I think a lot of you would enjoy meeting and following one another.
  1. Remember, you never have to follow anyone just because they follow you. However, it is good manners to always return a page visit for a page visit. Did someone stop by your blog, like or leave a comment? Do the same for them! It only takes a minute.
  2. Don’t forget to REBLOG! Spread the fun by encouraging your own followers to join in the party! This is the best way to attract new bloggers by spreading the word.

Have Fun Everyone! And Merry Christmas! Time to spread holiday cheer! Don’t forget . . .

This Blog Party will be held and moderated exclusively Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so don’t miss out!

Welcoming in October 1st with some Disney Magic!

Hello Everyone! We are finally in October, the true start of the holiday season that kicks off Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years!

I absolutely adore this time of year and to welcome in October, I am doing another Disney-focused blog: this time on one of Disney’s most popular Halloween-rides!

The Haunted Mansion:

Nightmare Before Christmas Style

The Haunted Mansion was first opened in August of 1969, featuring 999 happy haunts, although there is always room for one more *wink wink, nudge nudge.* And for five years, the ride remained the same throughout the seasons.

However, in September of 2001, Disneyland re-imagined the Haunted Mansion with a holiday twist and so it adopted many aspects from the beloved film Nightmare Before Christmas.” In the 1993 film, protagonist Jack Skellington of Halloweentown feels empty of purpose and bored with the routine Halloween that passes year after year. He stumbles into Christmastown and, after kidnapping Santa Claus (all for the cause of course), chaos reigns. The line between Halloween and Christmas is erased (completely ignoring the fact that Thanksgiving lies in between). What we have left is a mishmash of scary and funny (a lot like the original Haunted Mansion itself.

Currently, Disneyland hosts the Nightmare Before Christmas themed Haunted Mansion every year September through December. From the haunted elevator ride (ahem *stretching room*) to the spooky hallway to our main foyer, Halloween and Christmas can be seen everywhere! Zero’s bones have completely taken over the first room of haunted armor and pumpkins easily replace the singing-stone heads.

However, the greatest masterpiece displayed every year is the Gingerbread house! Made entirely out of edible gingerbread, handcrafted and uniquely designed, the Gingerbread houses are more and more elaborate every year. This year, the magnificent gingerbread house is accompanied by a ginormous spider who is quickly ensnaring the house within its grasp (and who can blame him? It looks delicious!)

As you travel throughout the ride, you will come face-to-face with many of the classic characters from the movie such as: Jack Skellington (complete in his Santa suit), Sally (dreamily leaning against a gravestone), Zero, the Oogie Boogie Man, and so many more!

The next time you drop by New Orleans, don’t miss out on this truly eye-popping experience!

3 Steps to Combat Post-Christmas Blues

Well, Christmas is *technically* over as of midnight last night. If you are like me, a full-time Christmas lover, this might be a hard time for you. You are being hit with the Post-Christmas blues! I’m going to offer you three ways to battle the post-Christmas blues:

  1. Take Your Time Moving Forward

    • There are six days left in December so why rush? There is no reason to automatically shut off your Christmas music or tear down your decorations the day after Christmas. So take a couple more days to appreciate the Christmas cheer.
  2. Make Cleaning Up A Party!

    • Once it is time to clean up all the Christmas decorations make it a party! Turn up that Christmas music nice and loud, make some hot cocoa, wear that Christmas hat/sweater/socks one last time, and eat some left over sweets while you put away the decorations and prepare for the new year.
  3. Look Forward to the New Year

    • New Years Eve is on December 31st and as the New Year approaches take some time to remember 2017. What were your best moments? What have you accomplished? Be thankful for what has transpired. Then, looking forward to 2018. What do you want to accomplish in the New Year?

I hope these three tips are enough to help battle your Christmas blues!

Merry Christmas

I hope that you all are enjoying your Christmas with family and loved ones! Indeed, this morning I will be having a pajama party with my large, extended family. Before I go, I want to wish you all a merry Christmas and hope that you take the time to read what Christmas is all about ❤

What must it have been like for Joseph? For Mary? For the shepherds and the wise men? One can only read and imagine. . .

Luke 2:1-20

The Birth of Jesus

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole empire should be registered. This first registration took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So everyone went to be registered, each to his own town.

Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David, to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant. While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. Then she gave birth to her firstborn Son, and she wrapped him tightly in cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

The Shepherds and the Angels

In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people:11 Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped tightly in cloth and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:

14 Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and peace on earth to people he favors!

15 When the angels had left them and returned to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go straight to Bethlehem and see what has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”

16 They hurried off and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the manger. 17 After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had seen and heard, which were just as they had been told.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

What will you be doing today?
