Ballerina spinning on uneven deck
Of tilting ship
Rotating and twirling, quick then slow
On rotting beams.
Ship swaying and swirling, dumping cargo
Over the side.
Nose numb and ears tingling with abandoned
Oblivion.
Wind howling and pressing determinedly
Against the ballerina
Tossing ship and dancer, slapping strands of hair
About her face.
Mast falling, sails tearing, and yet
She dances on.
But in my mind, the wind whips up the wave
Which swallows whole
Both the ballerina
And the boat.
