Write,
Come on, it’s not that hard
“Her eyes like the sun, scorching like Hell”
Not very good.
Write,
Come on, put something down
“His hands like velvet, choking me”
Not much better.
Write,
Come on, poets do this everyday
And yet,
When I try to write the words
I don’t know what to say
I could languish away
Never quenched by the poet’s water
Cascading, flowing, gushing, vomiting
Into a dry savannah
I could starve to death
Never satisfied by the poet’s love
The incandescent touch that
Grates and chafes
Write,
Write me something beautiful and revolting
Something appealing yet grotesque
Write, about anything.

The writer’s block struggles are real.
Also, writing upon request can be intimidating.

Oh goodness yes! When no one knows, I could write all day. As soon as I tell someone that I’m taking a “writing day” my words dry up!

When I struggle with what I want to write, I read what others wrote or I go into my archives and revamp some of my oldies. I also write ahead of time, mainly the haiku/senryu forms of poetry and save them in a word doc. So, when I can’t think of what to write, I already have a few pieces available. I’m considering revamping my 2 books and give them more depth.

Some great ideas Eugenia! I also love your idea of revamping old work. For your books, would you “re-publish” the work? Or would they be so different that they would become a new book entirely?

I’m not sure because the first book is entirely poetry so it doesn’t make sense to revamp the poems themselves. I would like to use illustrations rather than photos – something to tie it together.

Oh that sounds interesting. Would you do the drawings yourself or would you find an illustrator?

I would most likely have to find an illustrator.

I just found a program that has all the bells and whistles called Sketchpad. You can draw, paint, etc., and it comes with oodles of clipart! I created a couple of scenes and now I am hooked on it! So, I will try to do my own illustrations. 😉
