It’s so good
That she remembers how to laugh
Even when the laughter
Can’t reach
her eyes.

So sad.
Powerful piece.

Thank you. Love is powerful and heart-breaking and beautiful all at once. And the love that she still feels for him, even after he is gone, is astounding to me.

Beautiful piece, KaylaAnn. It reminds us that not everyone who laughs with us, or smiles at us, is genuinely happy. It might only be a facade. For all we know, they might be suffering from so much pain, but choose not to show it.

It’s true Obinna, or it could be something different than a facade. Not so much that they are pretending to be happy, but rather, they wish to be happy but their joy cannot overcome their sorrow (YET).

To me, this reminds me of trying to be brave when everything has gone wrong. Eyes don’t lie, even if smiles sometimes try

Indeed Ethan. That sentiment is definitely involved in the emotion of the poem. It’s not even so much trying to be brave, but being brave and being happy while that bravery and happiness is not enough to overcome sorrow and loss.

It takes a strong heart to be smiling in the face of adversities.

Indeed it does. My grandmother, whom this poem was inspired by, is the strongest woman I know.
