What is your purpose?

I fully believe that each and every one of us were intentionally placed on this earth with a specific purpose and, as a Christian, I believe that purpose centers on Christ.

From time to time, I intend to post on the message that I heard in church, especially if it resonates strongly with me. This week we talked all about purpose. What is your purpose? What is mine?

As a writer, some might think that I consider writing to be my purpose.

It is my goal to become a successful author, yes, but that is not my purpose. I love writing with every fiber of my being, but as a Christian my status as “Author” must come second to my position as “Follower.”

When I discover who Jesus is, I discover what my purpose is. – Pastor Matt Brown

“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.” – Mark 8:35

My Purpose is to join Jesus in building his church. – Pastor Matt Brown

Within the church, every member is a single pebble. However, each pebble is able to come together to form a foundation and then a structure and then the church of God. I want to be involved in building that church.

But don’t get me wrong or turn away in disgust. I am NOT saying that as a Christian I cannot be a writer, a poet, or an artist. I truly believe that God has given us gifts and talents and He intends for us to use them. God does not mind if I write, as long as that does not come before him.

What is your purpose? Do you have one? Do you believe that you do?

“Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone…” – Galatians 6:10

It is not my intention in this post to make you feel uncomfortable, but I hope that it might open up a dialogue. I am always willing to discuss my faith.

Happy Writing & Reading Everyone!

    1. Thank you very much! I don’t want to turn anyone away, but I also feel that it is important to share my faith as well 😀 If you ever have any questions, I would do my best to answer them. But I’ll be honest, I don’t always have all the answers

  1. In answer to your question, I’m not sure. I’m not the most devoted person when it comes to religion. I like to think that God is around me all of the time and for that, my life is good.

I find that “religion” is such a difficult word nowadays. Often time religion refers to an institution of rules when it was never intended that way.
God is definitely all around us, I find that my life is better because of my intimate relationship with God. ❤

  2. Amen. I totally agree, Christ should be first in our hearts. Unfortunately, this is something I always struggle with though. Writing is often an idol to me; hopeful one day I’ll get my priorities straight.

  3. If anyone ends up feeling uncomfortable it is probably the Holy Spirit nudging them. I agree with you on everyone has a purpose and that we as individuals are the church. Though I believe as Christians we are all called to make disciples, share the good news.

But also that God has a specific purpose for each of His children as well as the great commission.

It is very true that we are careful to not put anything above God, elevating that thing, activity, or person to idol status. Not an easy thing, impossible without the Holy Spirit. It’s comforting to know that

“….we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
    Hebrews 4:14‭-‬16 NLT
